Every year we are asked to help with dogs that have contracted Parvovirus. Parvovirus is almost 100% preventable with proper vaccination, yet we still see more and more cases every year.
Fighting this virus comes at a great cost. Each case of Parvovirus costs the fund approximately $1,000. That amount covers hospitalization, (which can last 7 days or more days), fluids, antibiotics and immune boosters. These animals cannot be treated at the shelter and therefore their best chance of survival must be handled by a professional veterinary team. With the help of our partners at VCA Apache Junction Animal Hospital, we were able to help these poor souls. Without their help, these animals would have had to be put down.
